This question has no particular application. It is just for fun!
A pupil kicks a ball into the air from a horizontal surface. Assuming a fixed take-off speed, the pupil asks the teacher, "What angle of launch will allow the ball to travel the greatest distance through the air?"
Keep it simple, ignore air resistance. Distance means distance in the simplest sense, not horizontal displacement or something terribly complicated.
There's only one answer and it isn't 45 degrees.
